Self-Management 201: Stress, Conflict, and How to Get Out Of Your Own Way

A light-hearted, yet challenging session offering practical skills to take charge of our own experience, attitudes, and behaviors no matter what's going on around us.

Course participants will learn:

  1. How to deal with stressful situations more effectively
  2. How to take accountability for their own reactions to others
  3. How to manage their emotions in the face of conflict
  4. How to communicate more respectfully during tough conversations
  5. How to get more of what they want without expecting other people to change (they probably aren't going to anyway)

Duration: 4 hours.

Target Audience: Leaders and staff at all levels



Forming New Teams: Getting Off On the Right Foot

This course addresses the challenges inherent in getting newly-formed teams up and running quickly and effectively, regardless of the circumstances under which they were created.

Course objectives: Team members will gain skills to:

  1. Create role clarity and define expectations
  2. Develop agreements to build trust, accountability, productivity and morale
  3. Share information more effectively
  4. Manage difficult relationships successfully
  5. Recover more rapidly when breakdowns occur within the team, with other departments, or with customers

Duration: One and a half to two days, depending on team needs.

Target Audience: Newly formed or forming work teams, including managers



Coping With Change: Practical Skills for Everybody

How to manage our emotions, get and give support, and stay productive during uncertain times.

Course Objectives: Participants will learn to:

  1. Identify the normal, predictable human responses to change
  2. Use simple tools to manage their own responses more creatively and effectively
  3. Ask for and offer appropriate support while taking accountability for outcomes and reducing victimization
  4. Create strategies for individual success
  5. Successfully manage conflicts resulting from change

Duration: Available in 4 or 8-hour sessions depending on need

Target audience: Individuals at any level experiencing changes at work


Performance Improvement for Existing Teams

Helps existing teams achieve higher levels of performance regardless of their current level. Good teams get better, underperforming teams improve, everybody wins.

Course Objectives: Team Members will:

  1. Understand the current level of performance and reasons to improve
  2. Learn skills to improve individual and team performance
  3. Identify obstacles to success and take steps to overcome them
  4. Develop measurable outcomes for improvement, with accountability to actually measure them
  5. Learn to manage relationships with customers, teammates, leadership, and other departments more successfully
  6. Increase team and individual accountability for long-term success

Duration: One and a half to two days, depending on team needs

Target Audience: Existing teams, including managers



The Leader as Coach

Coaching is a terrific tool for improving performance and relationships, as well as managing change. You can be better at it; I'll show you how. Includes hands-on practice and feedback.

Course Objectives: Participants will learn:

  1. When coaching is an appropriate strategy
  2. Practical, "do and don't" skills
  3. How to create a systematic, accountable coaching plan with measurable results
  4. Self-management in stressful coaching situations

Duration: 8 hours

Target Audience: Anybody who manages somebody else
